Transcript for Hanson's interview on the Morning MIX, MIX 105.1 [Orlando, FL], June 17, 2010

MIX 105.1: It's Hanson!

TAYLOR: Hey there! Good morning! (Zac and Isaac greet in the background)

MIX 105.1: Whenever anybody calls one of you, they always get all three of you?

(Laughter from Hanson)

TAYLOR: Did you call one of us, and all three of us picked—that's hilarious! 'I thought Zac was gonna be on the other line!'

ZAC: We've been on a constant conference call. It's like a three-way alllllll the time!

ISAAC: AWKWARD.

ZAC: In truth, it is kinda funny. Taylor was married first, and his wife always jokes that she married all three of us, she didn't marry one brother.

ISAAC: That's mostly because Taylor can't keep his phone charged. So, she has to call you or me to get a hold of him half the time. But, that's a whole 'nother problem!

TAYLOR: There are worse things in life than not being able to keep your phone charged.

ISAAC: (Sarcastically) Really? Are you serious? There are worse things?

MIX 105.1: Well, we've talked to you guys before, and we've told you that nobody mobilizes a street team better than Hanson. (Chuckling from Isaac) All we have to do is think that we might talk to you and all of a sudden there are hundreds of people everywhere mobilizing to get as close to you as possible and to spread the word.

TAYLOR: That's a good thing, I think!

ZAC: We have incredible fans, we've said it for years. The reason we've been able to do it for so long is our fans. They just keep supporting us, and they’re so passionate. Pretty awesome!

ISAAC: It doesn't suck!

MIX 105.1: Let me give you a little bit of good news here. My wife, she's not necessarily a new music aficionado, but when she does pick something—the last couple of picks where she came home and said to me, 'Have you heard this song?' were Hey, Soul Sister and I Got A Feeling. And then the other day, she came home with your song and said, 'Have you heard the new Hanson song yet?' So, you're in good company, and it's guaranteed success.

ZAC: You're saying she's like a magic ball or something where everything she says turns to gold?

MIX 105.1: Absolutely! She's got mojo!

TAYLOR: Well, there you go! It's awesome to be in good company. We're glad she likes the track! Does she have any picks for the World Cup?! (Laughter from the studio) Can we get in on that? We have a bookie. Can we ask her a few things?

MIX 105.1: Let's talk about Thinking 'Bout Somethin' 'cause it's, I don't know, Ray Charles! It's kinda bluesy. But, it looks like in the video you guys are just having the best time ever.

TAYLOR: The whole record is kind of a summer record. It's a record where—we've always talked about listening to soul music and rock ‘n’ roll. But, the last couple of albums have been a little more layered, and a little more sort of rootsy and pop/rock. We just sort of started listening to those records a little more, and I think we kind of rediscovered a little bit of our love for the soul record. And it came out especially in this song, and the music video is sort of a way of drawing a picture of what we sort of were hoping to invite people into.

ISAAC: It's more of a music video of the entirety of our inspirations, because the song references all of our musical inspirations. And the video is a reference to The Blues Brothers movie, a reenactment of a famous scene from that movie. And that movie was almost as influential on us musically as well as just in our lives.

TAYLOR: You know, bad humor and great music was that movie! So, we had a lot of fun making that video. If anybody checks it out, it's been so fun to see people— a couple million people have watched it and it's continued to just kind of spread around, and it's a combination of our good friend Weird Al Yankovic who guest appeared and hundreds of people dancing in the street. Yeah, it was a blast!

ISAAC: It was such a significant kind of influence on us. We always really loved that movie and we felt like the song, Thinking 'Bout Somethin', evoked a similar feeling and we wanted to make sure that we did the song and that scene justice.

TAYLOR: I was kind of curious—reverse the tables—did you guys have a reference with The Blues Brothers movie immediately or was that secondary when you saw the video? What was that first thing? Did you think, 'Oh cool—

MIX 105.1: I didn't go Blues Brothers. To be honest with you guys, The Blues Brothers is WAY before my time anyway. (Laughter from everyone)

TAYLOR: Haha. Well, it's way before our time!

MIX 105.1: I’m a From Justin to Kelly kind of guy.

(Hanson are confused by the reference to the movie Justin Guarini and Kelly Clarkson did together in 2003)

MIX 105.1: I have a sister who's three years older than me and I love her to death, but I can't imagine working with her as long as the three of you have been together working. On the surface it seems like everything is good. Is it always this good?

ZAC: Well, I need to tell you a secret! If you can't imagine it, that's probably why it never happened! (Laughter from everyone) Clearly, we've been a band for 18 years. I mean, people have known the band for about 13, and so we have a good relationship. I mean, not without its fair share of arguments or fights or things like that, but I don't know. We've always just, I think, had this mutual bond for music, and that's something that has kind of kept us from getting too caught up in the personal pitfalls that often siblings fall into.

TAYLOR: It's kind of like when you see someone that has a good—I mean, not to get too weird—but, has that good marriage. You know, they have a great marriage, they've been together for a long time. It's not as if they don't have issues. But, we have this mutual respect for what we do.
